Newswise — Broward College was recently recognized as a top college in the nation for the high number of associate degrees it awards in an academic year. During 2013-14, Broward College conferred 5,780 associate degrees, ranking the college fifth in the nation, according to the Top 100 Associate Degree Producers for 2015 report, which is issued by Community College Week. Broward College had significant increases in several areas measured, including an increase in African-American, Hispanic and Asian-American graduates, and associate degrees awarded in the areas of Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Students and Humanities; Nursing: Registered, Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing; and Health Professions and Related Programs.
“We are committed to increasing student success and encouraging our students to finish what they start, and this recognition is a true indication that our students are achieving their educational dreams and successfully completing their degrees,” said Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr. “We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and are honored to be recognized among the top colleges in the nation.”
Broward College ranks third for conferring degrees to minority students; second for degrees conferred to African-American students, which is up from fourth place the previous year; and fifth for degrees conferred to Hispanic students, up from sixth place.
Broward College also ranks third in the nation for the number of associate degrees awarded in the Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Students, and Humanities discipline; ninth in the nation in Nursing: Registered, Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing, up from 15th place, with a 17 percent increase in students compared to the previous academic year; and 17th in the nation for Health Professions and Related Programs, up from 20th place, with a 13 percent increase in students compared to the previous year.
Recently, Broward College was rated one of the Best Community Colleges in the Nation, according to WalletHub.com. Schools.com also ranked Broward College as one of the Best Community Colleges in Florida. Earlier this year, Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, released a report on the Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics. Broward College ranked 11th among college and universities for its undergraduate enrollment during the fall 2013 semester. In addition, Broward College ranks third nationally in conferring associate degrees to minority students, according to a recent report by Diverse Issues in Higher Education.
