The civil conflict in Syria has been growing in intensity for more than two years. When a chemical weapons strike in August killed more than 1,400 Syrian civilians, the U.S. and the world decided that something needed to be done. What action to take is still up for debate. VU political science faculty expert, Professor David Barrett, can discuss a variety of scenarios and can offer a historical perspective on American Presidents’ assertion of “war powers,” post-World War II to the present day, and the ongoing debate about the constitutionality of the claim.
