Top Liberal Arts Institutions To Discuss Retention of Students of Color

HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 7 -- Representative of the nation's top liberal arts colleges and universities, including deans of students, deans of faculty, admissions officers, and career services officers, will gather at Trinity College on Thursday, Feb. 17 for a special workshop focusing on the success, satisfaction, and retention of students of color.

"Select colleges and universities produce a disproportionate share of academic, industry, and community leaders, and we can't afford to lose any of our talented students," said Sharon D. Herzberger, Trinity's vice president for student services. "The purpose of the workshop is to share ideas among colleagues with common concerns so that we may develop strategies that will ensure the success and satisfaction of all students, but particularly our students of color."

The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Mather Hall. In addition to Trinity, representatives from more than 30 other select colleges and universities will attend, including Amherst College, Bard College, Bates College, Davidson College, Franklin & Marshall, Middlebury College, Smith College, Swarthmore College, University of the South, Vassar College, Washington & Lee University, and Wellesley College.
