About the 2015 AACC Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo

AACC’s annual meeting offers 5 days packed with opportunities to learn about exciting science from July 26–30. Plenary sessions feature expert presentations on using tumor DNA in the blood to diagnose and monitor cancer, reducing the risk of heart disease, transparency in healthcare delivery, the latest advances that could lead to a cure for HIV, and new tests and treatment for infection.

At the AACC Clinical Lab Expo, more than 700 exhibitors will fill the show floor of Atlanta’s convention center, Georgia World Congress Center, with displays of the latest diagnostic technology, including but not limited to mobile health, molecular diagnostics, mass spectrometry, point-of-care, and automation.

Research on First Lab-on-Cartridge Device That Can Perform All Common Medical Tests to Be Presented at 2015 AACC Annual Meeting

Clinical laboratory tests play a crucial role in making sure patients get appropriate care, yet many small labs and clinics in low resource settings cannot afford the instruments needed to provide these tests. Hair Samples May Offer New Insights Into the Relationship Between Asthma, Cortisol, and Complications in Pregnancy

Hair samples can be used to measure the effects of asthma on the cortisol levels of women during pregnancy, according to research presented today at the 2015 AACC Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo in Atlanta. This research also shows that levels of cortisol, a stress-related hormone, tend to be lower among pregnant women with asthma than among pregnant women without the chronic, inflammatory lung disease.

BBI Group Develops Rapid Test to Aid Identification and Potentially Help Minimise Spread of Ebola Virus

The BBI Group (BBI) today announced it has developed in collaboration with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) and licensed, through technology transfer company Ploughshare Innovations, a rapid test for Ebola. The assay, which is in the process of being verified to allow EUA submission, will be used to test patients suspected of Ebola infection to screen and potentially help with how they are subsequently managed. The test, utilising lateral flow technology, can provide a result in approximately 20 minutes.
