Newswise — The Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) announced the recipients of the 2015 HOPA Membership Awards at its 11th Annual Conference in March. HOPA Membership Awards recognize members who have shown outstanding achievement in their field.

David W. Henry MS BCOP FASHP2015 Award of ExcellenceThis Award of Excellence recognizes a member who has made a significant, sustained contribution to or provided excellent leadership in improving or supporting hematology/oncology pharmacy.

David Henry is Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, and is a pediatric hematology/oncology pharmacy pioneer, who has shaped practice, influenced trainees, improved treatments, and impacted research to optimize the care of cancer patients.

Ross Davidson & Terri Davidson, PharmD, BCOP, FASHP, FCCP 2015 Special Recognition AwardThis special award is given for outstanding contributions to the field of hematology/oncology pharmacy and to the HOPA organization.

Dr. Terri Davidson is an oncology clinical pharmacist who has spent her long and illustrious career in a variety of settings – all promoting the role of the oncology pharmacist. Following her education at University of Kentucky, Terri went to Emory University Hospital where she pioneered the role of the clinical oncology pharmacist. She developed an oncology/hematology pharmacy program that extended beyond her individual practice. She created one of the first hematology/oncology pharmacy programs in the country, focusing on developing comprehensive services. The Clinical Oncology Pharmacy Services program at Emory University Hospital included an emphasis on patient care and extended to clinical services, education, training and research in a collaborative environment. Terri’s vision and efforts were successful, in that she not only provided patient care services, but she developed a program that placed the influence of the clinical oncology specialists at the bedside throughout the institution.

Ross Davidson is not an oncology pharmacist, but his contributions to this organization are just as important. When the idea of HOPA transformed into reality, Ross was the person who provided the business development skills that were needed. He worked collaboratively with Terri and other HOPA founders to ensure that what had existed simply in thought was transformed into what we now know as HOPA.

Terri and Ross organized a planning meeting with key thought-leaders to establish an infrastructure that made it possible for HOPA to become an organization.
