Newswise — The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) announces new leadership and members of its board of directors for 2010-11.

Kristine Peterson, RN, MS, CCRN, CCNS, begins her term as the president of the AACN board of directors. Peterson, who brings more than 30 years of critical care nursing experience in advanced practice, management and education to this role, is a cardiac clinical nurse specialist at the Magnet-designated Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wisconsin.

Mary Stahl, RN, MSN, ACNS-BC, CCNS-CMC, CCRN, begins a one-year term as president-elect. A clinical nurse specialist in medical cardiology at Mid America Heart Institute, Saint Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., she returns to the board after serving a three-year term as a director from 2006-09.

Current board member Natalie Correll-Yoder, RN, MN, CCRN, CCNS, begins a one-year term as secretary. A clinical nurse specialist for critical care at Queen of the Valley Hospital, Napa, Calif., she is serving a three-year term as a director from 2008-2011.

Karen Stutzer-Treimel, RN, MSN, APN-C, CCRN, also a current board member, begins a one-year term as treasurer. She is the executive director of nursing practice and critical care services at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains, N.J.

Sheryl Leary, RN, MS, CCNS, CCRN, PCCN; Pamela Popplewell, RN, RNP, MSN, CCRN, ANP, ARNP; and Maureen Seckel, RN, ACNS-BC, CCRN, CCNS, join the board as directors for three-year terms from 2010-13.

New board member Leary holds a dual role as a clinical nurse specialist for the direct observation unit of the VA San Diego Healthcare System, La Jolla, Calif., and adjunct faculty member of the VA Nursing Academy affiliated with San Diego State University’s School of Nursing. Popplewell is director of nursing, surgical and perioperative care at VA Puget Sound Healthcare System in Seattle. A critical care medicine/pulmonary clinical nurse specialist at Christiana Care Health Services in Newark, Del., since 1996, Seckel serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Delaware College of Nursing.

AACN members elect the board through a process initiated by AACN’s Nominating Committee. Newly elected members, who serve for three years, begin their terms in July and conclude them in June.
