ACOEM Corporate Health Achievement Award call for entries

Chicago, August 30, 1999 - The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) has announced a call for entries for its year 2000 ACOEM Corporate Health Achievement Award (CHAA) competition. In its fourth year, the award is now co-sponsored by Glaxo Wellcome Inc., a leading research-based pharmaceutical firm based in Research Triangle Park, NC.

The award is designed to provide national recognition and honor to organizations within North America that have superior employee health, safety and environmental management programs and to encourage continued corporate self-assessment and improvement.

Any for-profit or non-profit manufacturing, service or government organization employing more than 1,000 employees is eligible to apply. Competing organizations will be judged on how they have integrated excellence and commitment to make their health programs comprehensive and innovative.

A professional team of examiners will conduct a rigorous review of applicants' health and safety programs. This review will measure 23 categories including people, environment, company and leadership. Finalists will receive extensive feedback from examiners on program strengths as well as areas that need improvement.

The year 2000 CHAA winners will be announced at the opening session of the ACOEM American Occupational Health Conference in Philadelphia, Pa., in May, 2000, and honored at a special awards luncheon. Winners will receive press recognition and are encouraged to publicize receipt of the award themselves to promote their best practices and programs as models.

Those wishing to enter the year 2000 CHAA competition must request an application package. Letters of intent to apply are due October 15, 1999. Completed applications are due January 1, 2000. To obtain an application package, contact Susanna Williams, CHAA administrator by phone at 804 970-7744, fax 804 977-8570 or e-mail [email protected].
