Some Highlights From the May Special Issue of Psychiatric Services: Focus
on Women

SEXUAL HARASSMENT LINKED TO PTSD IN MILITARY WOMEN
Stress from sexual harassment was almost four times more likely to be related to subsequent posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than duty-related stress, according to this Veterans Affairs Northeast Program Evaluation Center study. The study followed more than 325 military women. WOMEN WITH MENTAL ILLNESSES LESS LIKELY TO RECEIVE PREVENTATIVE HEALTH CARE
Women with chronic mental illness may not receive adequate preventive care such as routine breast and pelvic examinations, Pap tests, and mammogram, according to this Yale University study. Researchers in the May issue of Psychiatric Services compared preventive health care received by 47 women with serious mental illness in an urban mental health center to a group of 17 low-income women at a nearby primary care center. Women in either group who had a history of physical or sexual abuse were less likely to receive adequate care. ['Preventative Health Care for Mentally Ill Women,' Jeanne L.
