OWINGS MILLS, Md., July 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- AmericasDoctor.com, the Internet-based, real-time physician chat and health information system has formed an exclusive partnership with the Betty Ford Center, the renowned alcohol and drug dependency treatment service provider. The relationship strengthens AmericasDoctor.com's role as a major resource for addiction and rehabilitation information available on the Internet.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two organizations will work together exclusively to build the AmericasDoctor.com "Addictions Community." The Betty Ford Center will supply and review dependency and treatment information to be posted in the Community, as well as work with AmericasDoctor.com to develop and host special Internet events, live programming and chats with addiction experts.

According to Scott M. Rifkin, M.D., chairman and CEO of AmericasDoctor.com, forming a partnership with the Betty Ford Center enhances the information content of the Addictions Community, and supports AmericasDoctor.com's objective to be a resource for consumers seeking information on addictions and rehabilitation. "We are pleased to form a partnership with this prestigious institution," Rifkin said. "The Betty Ford Center is widely recognized as the leading addiction treatment facility in the nation. Consumers who visit AmericasDoctor.com are certain to benefit from this very important addition."

According to Betty Ford Center President, John T. Schwarzlose, the partnership with AmericasDoctor.com enables the Center to reach a much larger audience through a well-respected, credible web site.

"This is the first time that the Betty Ford Center has agreed to network with an Internet Health Information Provider," Schwarzlose said. "We are delighted to serve as a resource to AmericasDoctor.com for these important issues and to continue lessening the stigma of addiction."

The Betty Ford Center was founded in 1982 by former first lady Betty Ford and Ambassador Leonard Firestone. It provides effective alcohol and other drug dependency treatment services to help women, men and families begin the process of recovery. The Center also offers training programs for doctors and professionals and a special program for children, ages 7 through 12, and their parents.

AmericasDoctor.com began operating in September 1998. It is the only medical/health information Internet site to offer private, real-time, one-on-one chat with primary care doctors and other health specialists 24 hours a day, seven days a week at no cost to the consumer.
