AMGA Provides Comments on ONC’s Request for Information on Interoperability

Newswise — Alexandria, VA – AMGA submitted comments June 3 in response to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s Request for Information (RFI) on assessing interoperability for the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). AMGA recommended that ONC consider how investments in Health Information Technology (HIT) interoperability can correlate with patient outcomes. Incorporating how HIT effects quality and patient outcomes is a truer measure of meaningful use.

“AMGA members are dedicated to leveraging their investments in health information technology to improve the value of care provided,” said Donald W. Fisher, Ph.D., CAE, AMGA’s president and chief executive officer. “Our members well recognize how interoperable HIT can help improve value and quality in health care, and AMGA is concerned that ONC is missing an opportunity to help further such efforts. Our members know that simply in itself an interoperable health information technology system is not going to drive value in healthcare. Instead, value and quality must be essential components of achieving interoperability.”
