Newswise —

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) today announced initiatives with Teleflex Inc. and TeamHealth Anesthesia to benefit the ASA Charitable Foundation during the ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2015 annual meeting in San Diego. Teleflex, a leading global provider of medical devices, will host a “plinko” game with donations totaling up to $5,000. While TeamHealth, one of the nation’s largest providers of hospital-based clinical outsourcing, will host a “badge scan” promotion, donating up to $1,500.

The contribution from Teleflex to the global campaign for surgical safety is a perfect match of a global enterprise with a global charity,” said ASA Charitable Foundation President Alexander A. Hannenberg, M.D. “We are delighted that TeamHealth has also joined as a supporter this year. Many patients will be safeguarded as a result of these partnerships.”

This is the third consecutive year Teleflex will support the ASA Charitable Foundation, and its Lifebox initiative, which helps deliver low-cost and high-quality pulse oximeters to thousands of people undergoing surgery in under-resourced countries, at the ANESTHESIOLOGY® annual meeting. Pulse oximeters are a standard piece of equipment in most hospitals in the U.S. and contribute to safe patient care. More than 31.5 million operations are performed annually in 70,000 operating rooms in underdeveloped countries without pulse oximeters.

The “plinko” game will be located at Teleflex booth #3037 in the exhibit hall at the San Diego Convention Center. Meeting attendees will have a chance to drop coin-shaped disks down a slotted board for a chance to donate $10 to $40. If an attendee also has the Teleflex flyer found in meeting registration bags with them, Teleflex will double the amount of the donation.

We feel privileged to again support the ASA and its Lifebox initiative to make surgery safer in low-resource countries,” said Justin McMurray, president of the Teleflex Anesthesia Division. “We share their commitment to making advances in medical technology more widely available to improve the health and quality of people’s lives.”

TeamHealth is continuing their support of ASA’s affiliated organizations by hosting a “badge scan” charitable donation effort at the TeamHealth booth #4327 in the exhibit hall. TeamHealth will donate $5 for every meeting attendee who visits their booth and gets their badge scanned, up to $1,500. Last year, TeamHealth raised $1,500 for the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation.

TeamHealth is honored to support the ASA Charitable Foundation and its mission to provide health care services in under-served communities, increase access to quality anesthesia care and promote anesthesiology educational opportunities,” said Sonya Pease, M.D., chief medical officer of TeamHealth Anesthesia. “We are excited to participate with an organization that impacts the health and quality of patient’s lives around the world.”
