Newswise — For the second consecutive year, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology's Annual Meeting has been selected by Tradeshow Week, a respected weekly industry magazine, as one of the 50 fastest growing tradeshows in the United States and Canada. ASTRO received this award due to the impressive growth of its exhibit hall over the past three years.

The ASTRO exhibit hall has grown exponentially since its 2000 Annual Meeting in Boston that saw 220 companies occupy 87,400 net square feet of exhibit space. In 2001 in San Francisco, 218 companies exhibited at ASTRO's meeting occupying 88,400 square feet. At the 2002 meeting in New Orleans, the number of companies jumped to 240 occupying 95,800 net square feet. In 2003 in Salt Lake City, ASTRO attracted 232 companies who took 96,000 net square feet of exhibit space. ASTRO hopes its 2004 meeting in Atlanta will bring about another increase in the amount of exhibit space available to companies with nearly 250 exhibitors expected to occupy more than 98,000 net square feet.

"I'm very proud that ASTRO has once again been recognized with this honor by Tradeshow Week. It shows not only the success of our meeting, but the continued interest in radiation therapy as a safe and effective treatment for cancer patients," said Laura I. Thevenot, ASTRO Executive Director.

ASTRO will be formally recognized at an awards ceremony this November in Dallas.
