Newswise — The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology is pleased to announce that Lisa Shuger Hublitz has been hired as its new Director of Government Relations.

Ms. Shuger has more than 17 years of experience in public policy and advocacy roles with many different non-profit organizations. In addition, she served for five years in the City of New York's Washington, D.C. office. She has worked with such varied subject matter as healthcare, mental health, welfare, immigration, appropriations, Medicaid, education and science policy.

"I'm excited to have Lisa join our staff," said Laura I. Thevenot, ASTRO Chief Executive Officer. "She brings with her significant experience in public policy and advocacy at federal, state and local levels. Her diverse contacts within both the legislative branch and key agencies and will undoubtedly be an asset to the Society and its membership."

Most recently, Ms. Shuger was employed by the American Orthopsychiatric Association as Director of Government Relations and External Affairs. In that capacity, she relocated the Association's national office from New York to Washington, D.C. and built a government and legislative affairs program that elevated the Association's presence and role in public policy debate.

As Deputy Director of Mayor Giuliani's Washington D.C. office, Ms. Shuger worked with Congress and the executive branch to advance the federal agenda on behalf of the City of New York. She also advised the Mayor and senior level New York City government officials on relevant domestic policy matters including bioterrorism.

"Lisa joins the terrific government relations team we have in place at a critical time and will be a wonderful leader of our government relations effort," said Thevenot.
