The American Pediatric Society's highest award, the John Howland Medal, has been given since 1952 to honor those who have significantly contributed to advancements in the field of pediatrics.

YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD

Presented by the Society for Pediatric Research

This award was designed to honor and recognize young physicians as they embark on a career in investigative pediatrics. One award per year is presented and provides an honorarium of $2,000, plus travel expenses to the Pediatric Academic Societies' annual meeting. Eligible nominees may hold the rank up to and including assistant professor. They must be less than 40 years of age at the time of the annual meeting at which the award is presented. The winning applicant is selected on the basis of published research.

Nominees must have received their first doctoral degree in 1980 or later. Research must be related to pediatrics and published recently.

DAVID G. NATHAN RESEARCH AWARD

Presented by the Society for Pediatric Research

The David G. Nathan in Basic Research by a Fellow has been established by the colleagues, trainees, and friends of Dr. Nathan. The Award marks Dr. Nathan's many achievements in every aspect of academic Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology, but most particularly celebrates his mentorship of young physicians during the formative years of their research careers. The SPR presented the first David G. Nathan Award at the meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies and American Academy of Pediatric Joint Meeting in 2000. The designated fellow will receive the award during the Presidential Plenary Session of the SPR and will present the selected abstract at a selected session.

RICHARD D. ROWE AWARD IN PERINATAL CARDIOLOGY

Presented by the Society for Pediatric Research

This award was established in 1989 by colleagues, trainees, and friends of Dr. Richard Rowe to honor his personal achievements, commitment to academic excellence, integrity and humility. The winning candidate is selected by a committee from the Society for Pediatric Research on the basis of the candidate's academic achievement and potential and the quality of the work presented in the abstract. The award is presented in a cardiology session at the spring meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies and carries a monetary prize of $1,000.

SPR RESEARCH AWARDS

The Society for Pediatric Research annually honors students, house officers and fellows engaged in pediatric research. These awards are designed to encourage pediatricians in training to pursue careers in academic pediatrics. Each award ($1,000) will be given annually to individuals in each category at the SPR meetings. Awards will be made only when there are worthy candidates.
