Newswise — Three colleges that are among the best in their fields -- Babson College in entrepreneurship, Olin College of Engineering in engineering, and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in industrial design -- will sponsor the Undergraduate Product Design Final Presentations 2011, featuring the efforts of a semester-long joint teaching effort by the three institutions.

On Thursday, December 15th, 8:00 a.m.-noon, at Rhode Island School of Design, six interdisciplinary teams of undergraduate students from Babson, Olin, and RISD will present their new product concepts in six consecutive presentations.

Their creative concepts include:

* A harness accessory for leg crutches which aids in reducing pain and increasing mobility* A set of accessories that make life easier when on crutches* Desk-related furniture for student’s small living spaces* A new device empowering children to take an active role in managing their asthma* A new wireless headphone set for runners* Glass that educates the user about his/her calorie intake for various beverages.

The teams developed their designs during the joint three-school undergraduate course in Product Design and Development in Interdisciplinary Teams (MOB-3578 at Babson, ENGR3299 at Olin, Babson-Olin Studio at RISD).

Faculty teaching the course include Sebastian Fixson (Babson), Ozgur Eris (Olin) and Matt Kressy (RISD).
