Temple University has many faculty members and administrators available to contribute expert advice and opinion to any "back to school" related articles.

Higher Education Experts

John Dimino, Ph.D. -- Dr. Dimino is director of the University's Counseling Services Center. He specializes in counseling students and families about making the transition to college. Dr. Dimino has been interviewed by a number of media outlets, including the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Newark Star Ledger.

Bob Schiraldi -- Coordinator of Temple's Campus Alcohol and Substance Awareness Program. An internationally certified drug and alcohol counselor, Schiraldi has over 25 years of experience as a counselor, educator and administrator in the addictions and human services fields. He can comment on the latest programs colleges are using to combat alcohol and drug abuse as well as other substance abuse issues.

Jodi Levine, Ph.D. -- As Director of First-Year Programs, Dr. Levine deals with a lot of the issues facing freshman college students. In addition to helping freshmen pick out their classes and decide on majors, Dr. Levine's office offers advice on time management skills, study habits, and much more. She is also responsible for Temple's Learning Communities Program, which groups incoming freshmen into class clusters to provide a sense of a smaller community in a large university setting.

Regina Russo Wilmes -- She has served as director of university housing during a period of unprecedented growth in student enrollment and demand for on-campus housing. Record enrollments are causing many universities to come up with creative ways to meet the demand for housing. Wilmes can speak about what's being done at Temple as well as what solutions other colleges have come up with. Other topics she can speak to include what incoming freshmen should bring to live in the dorm and the latest innovations and amenities in on-campus housing.

Secondary and Elementary Education Experts

Lori Shorr -- As Director of School and Community Partnerships, Shorr is responsible for the administration of the many programs partnering Temple and the Philadelphia school district. Whether it be the federally funded Gear Up program, or just sending tutors to local schools, Temple has played a large role in trying to improve the quality of the Philadelphia school district. Shorr would be happy to talk about the various programs here at Temple and the role urban colleges can play in improving the quality of education for inner-city children.

Irwin Hyman, Ph.D. - Director of the National Center for the Study of Corporal Punishment and Alternatives at Temple, Hyman, a school psychologist, is a nationally recognized expert on school violence issues. Author of the book Dangerous Schools, he can discuss the important role mental health professionals can play in making schools safer for students and teachers.
