Newswise — Biotech research and science park leaders from around the world will convene in Atlanta, Ga. this May to network and learn the latest about the process of building communities of biotechnology innovation, and creating the high tech jobs that are the result of the development of BioParks. BioParks continue to fuel regional economies through the development of new companies and the commercialization of new technologies.

Cutting-edge educational sessions, key note speakers and highlights from the leading research parks and biotechnology centers will draw leaders to The Association of University Research Parks' BioParks 2009: The Infrastructure of Innovation , on May 15th and 16th, 2009.

Hosted by The University Financing Foundation, BioParks will focus on formulating the financial support and infrastructure needed to succeed in today's turbulent economic times.

Keynote speaker Robert E. Olson, the Regional Director for the Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce will focus on the latest EDA funding opportunities for research and science parks. And Dr. Lisa Lee, the Assistant Science Officer at The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will provide updates on the new focus on technology transfer for the CDC.

BioParks 2009 will provide global insight through a panel discussion on Global Partnering Strategies with Lourdes Núñez Müller, Director of Knowledge Transfer for Granada Health-Science Technology Park and Federico de Gispert Boix, Advisor to the Murcia Science Park in Espinardo, Spain.

Additional speakers include Kenneth C. Stewart, Commissioner, Georgia Department of Economic Development, William Dean, Director, Piedmont Triad Research Park and Chairman, North Carolina Research Parks Network, Dr. Eric Tomlinson, President and CEO of Altea Therapeutics Corporation, and Dr. Thomas H.
