Newswise — The artifacts that appear in this photo essay are parts of the Computer History Museum's ongoing exhibit, "Revolution: The First 2000 Years of Computing." Interviews with Dag Spicer, senior curator at the museum, and a circuit designer turned historian, provide background on the varied objects, including the 1953 Johniac, a custom-built computer that arrived at the museum after being abandoned in a parking lot; a World War II Enigma enciphering machine; and a 1972 Pong video-game system. Photographs of the pieces by photographer Mark Richards show the artifacts in vivid detail.
