Newswise — The Center for Entrepreneurship at Boise State University, in conjunction with the TECenter, is launching The StartUp Shop, a new project designed to jump start economic development in the Boise valley.

The first StartUp Shop event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21. Applicants can learn more at http://cobe.boisestate.edu/startupshop.

The StartUp Shop will connect people with new business ideas to partners, entities and programs that can support them in their entrepreneurial journey. Through The StartUp Shop process, participants will receive feedback and development support at the critical early stages, including beneficial guidance on next steps and advice on strategic direction.

Each session will consist of a brief elevator pitch from a selected participant, followed by direct feedback and interaction with a panel of industry experts that have experience in the applicable field. Students and community members with new business or product ideas are encouraged to submit applications to this free program.

“We see a major opportunity to help guide entrepreneurs through the make-or-break stages of new, innovative concepts. Savvy business ideas deserve strong support from industry experts, and The StartUp Shop will facilitate that vital input,” said Kent Neupert, Center for Entrepreneurship director. “Our goal is to create an environment to help foster the next generation of business — in a forum that capitalizes on the Treasure Valley’s knowledge base.”

Qualified participants will be vetted through a competitive application process to provide equal access to the expertise provided by StartUp Shop virtuosos.

“Once we better understand the idea proposed, we will assemble an expert audience comprised of local industry leaders to provide the best guidance for that project,” Neupert said.
