Newswise — The U.S.-Mexico border will be seen at its best at the second annual Awards for U.S.-Mexico Cross-Border Cooperation and Innovation, which will be formally presented on Monday, September 24, at 7 p.m. at the official dinner of the binational trade conference, “Realizing the Economic Strength of Our 21st Century Border” at the Fiesta Resort Conference Center in Tempe, Arizona.
The awards program — now in its second year — honors “success stories” in local and state collaboration between the United States and Mexico. The program is organized by the Border Research Partnership,comprising the North American Center for Transborder Studies, a research unit in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University, Mexico’s El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF) and the Mexico Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. The winners were selected by an independent bi-national selection committee.
The winning crossborder collaborations represent the range of activates that happen every day to make life in the border region safer, healthier, cleaner, and more prosperous along the U.S.-Mexico Border. The winners for 2012 include government agencies, non-profits, and institutions that deeply engage regional stakeholders and enhance the lives of residents on both sides of the border and come from the fields of law, health, migration and music.
The winners are:*Conference of Western Attorneys General: “U.S. and Mexico State Attorney Generals Work Together to Promote Rule the Rule of Law”*The Kino Border Initiative: “Fostering Binational Solidarity along the U.S. - Mexico Border”*Mainly Mozart: “The International Language: Mainly Mozart Binacional”*Integra Foundation: “Providing Healthcare Services to Handicapped Individuals in the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez Area”
Special RecognitionIn addition, The Border Research Partnership will present for the first time a Special Recognition to the North American Development Bank (www.nadb.org) for its contribution to building a strong partnership between the United States and Mexico through funding infrastructure projects in the border region since 1994. NADB Managing Director Geronimo Gutiérrez will accept the award on behalf of the institution.
