Dr. Stegenga has been an active member in APHON, serving in several leadership roles including Member of the Board from 2005-2008, Annual Conference Planning Committee Chair in both 2004 and 2009 as well as a member of the Steering Council Committee since 2008 and Chair from 2011-2013. The Steering Council directs the development and production of the award winning APHON nursing and patient resources collection. She has also been a contributing author to JOPON, Oncology Nursing Forum, Cancer Nursing, and the International Journal of Nursing Studies.
Dr. Stegenga is a Nurse Researcher at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. She has earned her Doctorate, from the University of Missouri, Kansas City as well as a Master’s Degree, and Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Kansas.
In addition to her work with APHON, Dr. Stegenga has served in the at-large professional community having been a research mentor with the Children’s Oncology Group Nursing Research Traineeship as well as receiving a traineeship. She has served as a reviewer for the ONS Foundation Research Grant Core Review Team. In addition, she has presented at the Sigma Theta Tau, 24th International Nursing Research Congress and the 11th International Family Nursing Conference.
APHON is the professional organization for pediatric hematology/oncology nurses and other pediatric hematology/oncology healthcare professionals. Its members are dedicated to promoting optimal nursing care for children, adolescents and young adults with cancer and blood disorders, and their families. APHON provides the leadership and expertise to pediatric hematology/oncology nurses by defining and promoting the highest standards of practice and care to the pediatric, adolescent and young adult communities.
