Newswise — Highly regarded neurologist and neuromuscular pathologist, Moris J. Danon, MD, has joined Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City as Chief of Neurology. In his new position, Dr. Danon will see patients with neurological complaints, oversee muscle and nerve biopsies and perform electromyography (EMG). Dr. Danon comes to HSS from the University of Minnesota Medical School, Minneapolis, Minnesota where he was a Professor of Neurology.

Dr. Danon has studied nerve/muscle histopathology and histochemistry and has held top positions in the neurology and pathology departments of many prestigious teaching hospitals and medical centers.

Born in Turkey, Dr. Danon received his medical degree from the Graduate University of Istanbul, Istanbul, Turkey in 1967. In 1968, he arrived in the United States to continue his medical career at institutions including New York University Medical Center, New York; Northwestern University and University of Illinois School of Medicine, both in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Danon's professional training also brought him to the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University, Montreal, Canada where in 1973 he began his research fellowship and made important research contributions until his departure in 1975.

Dr. Danon is Board Certified in Neurology and a member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has also authored and co-authored numerous publications and abstracts, and has presented at major meetings across the globe.
