Newswise — Reston, VA — The American College of Radiology (ACR) Commission on Patient- and Family-Centered Care Economics Committee will provide input in the development of ACR-backed value-based payment models and measures that deliver patient-defined value.

“Radiologists may not always have the opportunity to interact directly with patients. However, such conversations empower patients to make informed health care choices. And, this is a key part of a positive patient experience increasingly tied to reimbursement,” said James V. Rawson, MD, FACR, commission chair. To support this effort, Economics Committee members will work with members of ACR’s Economics Commission. The commission’s four committees are unique and include former/current patients, members representing diverse subspecialties and allied colleagues, added Rawson, the P.L., J. Luther and Ada Warren Professor and chair of radiology and imaging at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.

The committee is under the leadership of Giles W. Boland, MD, MB, BS, FACR, radiology professor at Harvard Medical School and the vice chair of radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), both in Boston, MA. He holds numerous administrative leadership positions at MGH and affiliated institutions, including vice chair of business development, the director of teleradiology, the medical director of outpatient imaging centers and a principal for the Radiology Consulting Group, all in MGH’s department of radiology. Jason J. Naidich, MD, MBA, chair of Hofstra North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) School of Medicine at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, serves as vice chair. Naidich is also chair of the radiology department at North Shore University Hospital and LIJ Medical Center, both in Manhasset, NY. He is also the senior vice president of imaging services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
