Newswise — January 31, 2012 — (Bronx, NY) — Communications and marketing strategist Paul Moniz has been named managing director of communications and marketing at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University after a successful three-and-a-half-year run as a director in the College of Medicine’s Philip and Rita Rosen Department of Communications and Public Affairs. Mr. Moniz is a seasoned communications professional and an award-winning former broadcast journalist with 20 years of public relations and journalism experience.

Mr. Moniz is credited with building from the ground up Einstein’s external communications structure; collaborating with senior-level colleagues to enhance Einstein’s brand nationally and internationally; and launching and expanding Einstein’s social media platforms, which include a robust presence on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, GooglePlus and iTunesU, and the creation of a recently launched physician-focused blog, The Doctor’s Tablet.

Mr. Moniz currently oversees media relations, social media, multimedia and marketing. In his expanded capacity, he will continue to increase the department’s marketing capabilities and further grow its integrated digital content. He also will serve as co-editor of The Doctor’s Tablet, maintain responsibility for the department of communications and public affairs budget and supervise a full-time staff of seven in addition to freelancers and outside consultants.

He has succeeded in dramatic fashion by implementing highly effective communications and marketing strategies that have bolstered Einstein’s profile and reputation. Before joining Einstein, Mr. Moniz founded and ran Connect Strategic Communications, a New York City–based consultancy specializing in media strategy, reputation management, video production and spokesperson training. At Connect, he served as executive producer on large-scale Web video projects for the American Foundation for the Blind. As an outgrowth of his Connect client base, Mr. Moniz was appointed vice president in the healthcare practice of Widmeyer Communications, a Washington, DC–based public relations firm with a New York City office.

Prior to working at Connect and Widmeyer, Mr. Moniz enjoyed a 15-year career as a television reporter and anchor. He reported for the network affiliates of CBS, NBC and ABC along the East Coast. In New York City, he was affiliated with the network flagship stations WCBS-TV and WNBC-TV. He also served as contributing correspondent to the CBS Evening News. As an investigative health reporter at WCBS-TV, Mr. Moniz covered the environmental and health effects of the World Trade Center attack, joining a team that won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for 9/11 coverage.

Mr. Moniz is the recipient of an Emmy Award for individual achievement in reporting and has received seven Emmy nominations. His work in journalism has been recognized by the Radio- Television News Directors Association, the Associated Press, the New York State Broadcasters Association and the Society of Silurians. He is a graduate of Boston University and a native of Rhode Island, and a resident of New York City.

A strong advocate of professional development, Mr. Moniz actively maintains memberships in the Association of the American Medical Colleges Group on Institutional Advancement, the Public Relations Association of America, the American Marketing Association and the Healthcare PR & Marketing Society of Greater New York.
