Newswise — The 2008 Journal Citation Reports® Science Edition shows that Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) increased its impact factor to 6.12 for 2008, an increase of 8.6% over the prior year's impact factor of 5.64. EHP now ranks second among 163 environmental sciences journals and second among 105 public, environmental, and occupational health journals.

EHP is a peer-reviewed journal published monthly by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

"Our mission at EHP is to provide the public with the most comprehensive and relevant environmental health information available," said Editor-in-Chief Hugh Tilson. "Growth in our impact factor is a very material way in which we see the influence of the journal on the field of environmental health sciences -- evidence that we are fulfilling our obligation to the public and to the research community."

The 2008 impact factor reflects the average number of times that EHP articles published in 2006-2007 were cited in the scientific literature in 2008. The impact factor helps measure how widely a journal is used compared with other journals in the same field.

EHP is an Open Access journal. More information is available online at http://www.ehponline.org/. Brogan & Partners Convergence Marketing handles marketing and public relations for EHP and is responsible for creation and distribution of this press release.
