Newswise — Stephen Dittmore, assistant professor of sport management, University of Arkansas, is available to comment on the upcoming announcement of the 2016 Olympic location. In addition to scholarly research and publication, Dittmore has extensive professional experience in sport public relations, including serving on the staff of the 1996 and 2002 Olympics.

Considering the contenders for the 2016 Olympic city, Dittmore said, “You can make compelling arguments for each of the four cities. Which arguments resonate with the IOC membership will determine which city is selected.

"The makeup of the IOC memberships is heavily skewed in favor of Europe, which may hinder Chicago's hopes. The IOC has clashed recently with the USOC on its plans for an Olympic TV network and insistence on additional distribution of sponsorship revenues. In addition, the IOC snubbed two American-dominated sports, baseball and softball, by declining to readmit them into the Games for 2016."

Dittmore is available for interview in advance and after the announcement is made by the International Olympic Committee on Friday, October 2, at 12:30 p.m. EST or 11:30 a.m. CST.
