Former Defense Analyst, Terrorism Expert, Others Can Discuss Attacks

Media looking for experts to discuss yesterday's terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon can call these NC State University experts:

National Security and Defense

Dr. Linda Brady, (919) 513-1828 or [email protected], professor of political science and dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, is an expert on U.S. national security and defense policies, international negotiations and arms control. She served as an arms control analyst in the State Department and the Department of Defense.

Terrorism and Retaliation

Dr. William Boettcher, (919) 515-5096 or [email protected], assistant professor of political science, is an expert on U.S. national security, foreign policy and presidential decision-making regarding military retaliation and intervention.

Middle East Politics

Attacks' Effects on Economy

Dr. Michael Walden, (919) 515-4671 or [email protected], professor and extension economist, can discuss both the short-term and long-term effects of the attacks on the national economy.

Robotic Devices for Rescue Efforts

Dr. Eddie Grant, (919) 515-7534 or [email protected], associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the center for robotics and intelligent machines, has developed an experimental pipe-crawling robot that could assist in recovery efforts like the one taking place in lower Manhattan.

Dealing with Tragedy

Dr. Karen DeBord, (919) 515-9147 or [email protected], associate professor and extension specialist in child development, can give pointers on how to discuss the tragic events with children, older adults and employers.

Structural Integrity of Attacked Buildings

Dr. Neven Krstulovic-Opara, (919) 515-7813 or [email protected], assistant professor of civil engineering, is an expert on structural integrity of buildings, and has worked to develop concrete materials that crumble into tiny pieces, rather than large chunks, when demolished by earthquakes or other disasters.

Dr. Ajaya Gupta, (919) 515-7338 or [email protected], professor of civil engineering, can discuss the type and extent of structural damage to buildings that might be expected from attacks as those that occurred at the Pentagon and World Trade Center.
