A forum (free and open to the public) on the current crisis of confidence in business, "Integrity and Self-Deception in Corporate America", will be a featured event at the Winter 2003 Meeting of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) -http://www.apsa-co.org/ctf/pubinfo/newsrelease.html. The Public Forum will take place from 12:00 -- 1:30 pm on Friday, January 24, 2003 in the Grand Ballroom on the third floor at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, 301 Park Avenue, New York City.

Three noted speakers, all with unique perspectives and counterintuitive views, will shed light on the recent wave of CEO scandals and corporate governance upheaval. They are: Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, Ph.D., Associate Dean of the Yale School of Management; Carol Hymowitz, Senior Editor of the Wall Street Journal; and Kenneth Eisold, Ph.D., President-Elect of the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organizations (ISPSO).

This public forum continues the Association's tradition of events that address issues of contemporary concern. Rather than focusing on moralizing or casting blame, the panelists will seek to understand the recent wave of CEO misdeeds in a psychological context, and after presenting brief remarks will take questions from the audience in what should be a lively and provocative program.

Sonnenfeld has written over 80 scholarly articles and is one of the most widely-cited authorities on CEO leadership and corporate governance. He is the founder and CEO of the Chief Executive Leadership Institute, and author of five books, including The Hero's Farewell: What Happens When CEO's Retire, an award winning study of CEO succession.

Hymowitz has been a reporter and editor at the Wall Street Journal for 20 years, and currently writes about leadership challenges and conflicts in the popular "In the Lead" column three times a month. According to Hymowitz, "Management and leadership remain an art rather than a science, dependent as ever on relationships among people."

Eisold, a psychologist and psychoanalyst, has written extensively on the dynamics of organizational life. He was the founding director of the Organization Program at the William Alanson White Institute. ISPSO is a 150-member international organization that provides a forum for academics, clinicians, consultants and others interested in working in and with organizations utilizing psychoanalytic concepts and insights.

The panel will be moderated by Kerry Sulkowicz, M.D., Chair of the Committee on Public Information of the American Psychoanalytic Association, and President of The Boswell Group, LLC, a consulting firm in New York that advises business leaders on psychological aspects of management, leadership and corporate life.
