Newswise — DALLAS – The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) will observe its 100-year anniversary during 2012 with special events, publications and other commemorative activities – including a gala celebration during its Annual Meeting in Fort Worth, Texas, in April.

The FSMB will also publish a book about its history during the year and will host a centennial symposium in Washington, D.C., in October.

FSMB CEO and President Humayun J. Chaudhry, DO, said the organization is celebrating its Centennial in a way that recognizes the impact of state medical boards as a whole – focusing on the FSMB’s role as a voice and advocate for all medical regulators.

“The FSMB speaks for a great community of professionals who are dedicated to their role of public protection,” Dr. Chaudhry said. “We intend to celebrate their work just as much as our own during a year-long calendar of events and activities.”

The FSMB, which operates from national headquarters in Euless, Texas, and maintains an advocacy office in Washington, D.C., represents the nation’s 70 state and territorial medical licensing boards. It was founded in Chicago in 1912.

During its Centennial, the FSMB will explore its past and future, focusing on four themes introduced quarterly: service, partnership, leadership and innovation.

It has launched a special website (www.fsmb.org), which includes a narrative history of the organization; an interactive map with histories of each member board; historical photos; historical publications; and a series of videos, to be released during the year, featuring interviews with FSMB leaders.

The Annual Meeting, to be held April 26-28 at the Fort Worth Omni Hotel, will feature a gala opening ceremony on Thursday, April 26, that will be nationally webcast.

The FSMB’s history book will be released in mid-2012. A national symposium focused on broad issues of interest to medical regulators will be held on October 17-18 at the Westin Washington, D.C. City Center. More details about the symposium will be released later in 2012.

During the year, the FSMB’s scholarly journal, the Journal of Medical Regulation, will also publish several features on topics related to the Centennial.
