Newswise — Geisinger Health System President and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Steele Jr., MD, PhD, has been named among Modern Healthcare magazine’s eighth annual 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare. Dr. Steele appeared previously in the publication’s 50 Most Powerful Physicians ranking.

Since Dr. Steele joined Geisinger in 2001, the health system has been successful in recruiting numerous highly respected and experienced physicians and researchers, updating and expanding medical facilities to bring Geisinger care closer to patients throughout central and northeast Pennsylvania, and expanding the health system’s electronic health record system.
Geisinger’s ProvenCare pay for performance and ProvenHealth Navigator medical home programs are often cited by President Barack Obama and other leaders in Washington, DC, when identifying Geisinger as a successful model for national healthcare reform. Earlier this year, Dr. Steele was on the short list of people being considered by the president for the Secretary of Health & Human Services cabinet post.
