AMERICAN COLLEGE OF GASTROENTEROLOGY UNVEILS WOMEN & GI WEBSITE

Interactive Brochure Highlights Medical Facts Most Relevant to Women

Washington, DC, January 12, 2000 -- The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) unveiled a comprehensive "interactive brochure" created to inform women and their families about gastrointestinal (GI) and other medical disorders. "Common Gastrointestinal and Medical Problems in Women" can be found on ACG's home page at http://www.acg.gi.org.

The "interactive brochure" includes a simple pull-down menu that allows visitors to easily reach information most relevant to them. Comprehensive information is available about:

-- Checklist of age-related screening tests for women

-- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD)

-- Colon cancer prevention and screening

-- Osteoporosis

-- Facts about menopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

-- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

-- Gallstones

-- Rectal problems

-- Danger of aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)

"Women should empower themselves with this information. Even when you feel well, screening tests are important throughout a woman's life," said Amy Foxx-Orenstein, D.O., FACG, Chair, Women In GI Committee. "In addition to a screening checklist, the website provides easy to understand facts about symptoms and treatment of the most common GI ailments."

The ACG was formed in 1932 to advance the scientific study and medical treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. The College promotes the highest standards in medical education and is guided by its commitment to meeting the needs of clinical gastroenterology practitioners.
