WASHINGTON (May 6, 2019) — Skin cancer is one of the common types of cancers, with approximately 9,500 people in the United States diagnosed daily. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and May 6 is Melanoma Monday, a day focused on raising awareness of the deadliest form of skin cancer. The George Washington University (GW) Department of Dermatology has various experts available to discuss topics related to safe and effective sun protection and skin cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Adam Friedman, MD, is the director of the Supportive Oncodermatology Clinic at GW Cancer Center and interim chair of the Department of Dermatology at SMHS. He can speak on topics related to effective and safe sun protection and skin cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Ilana DeLuca, MD, PhD, is a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at SMHS. She is a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in immunology. DeLuca is available to speak on how people can prevent and treat their skin concerns.
Vishal Patel, MD, is the director of the Cutaneous Oncology Program at GW Cancer Center and an assistant professor of dermatology at SMHS. He specializes in cutaneous oncology and mohs micrographic surgery. Patel is available to discuss the management and treatment of skin cancer.
