Newswise — Chicago, IL: The Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association has elected Helen M. Marshall, Pharm D, BCPS, BCOP as Secretary, Member of the Board, for the 2015-2016 term. Dr. Marshall took office at the recent 11th HOPA Annual Conference in March. Dr. Marshall has been actively involved with HOPA since 2005, including serving as the Chair of the Education Committee and holding membership in the Legislative Affairs, Education and Standards, Continuing Education Accreditation, and Professional Development Committees. Most recently, Dr. Marshall was instrumental in the development and planning of HOPA’s first Oncology Pharmacy Practice Management Course, now in its third year, and was a presenter at HOPA’s Annual Conference in 2014.

Dr. Marshall is currently a Clinical Pharmacist at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) and University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC). She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. Dr. Marshall’s expertise spans a variety of topics, including thoracic, head and neck oncology, and previously specialized in neuro-oncology and sarcoma. Dr. Marshall is dedicated to the advancement of the profession of pharmacy, and is an active member of multiple pharmacy associations in addition to HOPA, including ACCP, ASHP and WSPA.

In 2005, Dr. Marshall earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Washington. After receiving her degree, she completed a postgraduate year one-pharmacy practice residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, and a postgraduate year two-oncology specialty residency at Duke University Hospital.

HOPA is a nonprofit professional organization formed in 2004 to help oncology and hematology pharmacy practitioners and their associates provide the best possible cancer care. HOPA supports research, conducts educational conferences to advance knowledge, encourages professional development, and advocates for health policy issues that improve patient care. HOPA has more than 2,300 members and includes oncology pharmacists, as well as pharmacy interns, residents, technicians, researchers, and administrators specializing in hematology/oncology practice.
