Newswise — The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (JHUSON) is ranked No. 1 among schools of nursing for total funding received from the National Institutes of Health. For fiscal year 2012, ended in October, JHUSON earned $8,597,790 in NIH grants for nursing research on subjects ranging from cardiovascular disease to aging to violence prevention. In fiscal year 2011, JHUSON was No. 4, with more than $6.5 million granted.

“We're proud and excited to achieve this standing. But the best news here is what this says about our research, our researchers, and the focus on excellence in all that we do,” said Dean Martha N. Hill, PhD, RN, FAAN. “We will all take a moment to reflect on what this means to JHUSON and JHU. Then back to work.”

JHUSON is a leader in U.S. nursing research, with three research centers*, fellowships in four distinct research areas, and targeted research programs in cardiovascular risk reduction, care at end of life, community-based health promotion, health disparities, interpersonal violence, psychoneuroimmunology, psychiatric and mental health, and symptom management.

"The significant increase in NIH-funded research dollars among our faculty is a testament to the excellence and commitment of our scientists and the supportive research environment within our School,” said Associate Dean for Research Jerilyn Allen, ScD, RN, FAAN. “The funded projects address important research questions that will make valuable contributions to science."
