HARRISON A. (SKIP) HARTMAN, JR., OF LOEWS HOTELS TO RECEIVE PENN STATE HOSPITALITY EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR AWARD

University Park, Pa.--Harrison A. (Skip) Hartman, Jr., vice president and managing director for Loews L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C. and regional vice president of Loews Hotels, will receive the 1999 Hospitality Executive of the Year Award from the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society (PSHRS). He'll receive the award at a dinner to be held November 7 in New York City.

The award will be presented by Preston Robert Tisch, Co-Chairman of the Board of Loews Corporation, the parent company of Loews Hotels; Diane Ryan, Executive Director of Penn State's Alumni Association; and PSHRS President James Purdum.

"Skip Hartman is being honored for his years as an outstanding leader and innovator in the hospitality industry," says Mr. Purdum. "He is the consummate host and a stable force of service excellence in the profession. Skip sets the benchmark for personalized service." Loews Hotels, the founding division of the Loews Corporation, is one of the country's leading hotel companies. Loews currently owns and/or operates fifteen hotels and resorts in the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Hartman is a 1958 graduate of Penn State where he received his bachelor of science degree in Hotel Administration. He joined Loews Hotels in 1964 as Director of Personnel and Labor Relations, and in 1966 was made Assistant Vice President in Charge of Personnel. In quick succession he served as: Managing Director of Loews New York Hotel; Assistant Vice President in Charge of Operations for seven of Loews New York Hotels; and Regional Vice President for the Drake, Regency, Loews New York and Warwick Hotels. Prior to his appointment Mr. Hartman was Vice President and Managing Director of the former Loews Drake.

"He has always been a great friend to Penn State and our programs. Skip is very supportive of our students and provides internships and career opportunities. Many of his employees are Penn State graduates," says Dr. Robert Lee, interim director of the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Recreation Management in Penn State's College of Health and Human Development.

The Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society (PSHRS) is an alumni society formed over 50 years ago by alumni and friends of the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Recreation Management. PSHRS began presenting the Hospitality Executive of the Year Award to industry leaders in 1960.
