Newswise — Canada’s Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI) today announced the winners of its “I Love Science” youth video contest. The two grand prize winners will receive an all-expenses paid round trip to PI and be part of the “Hawking at the Perimeter” television special on June 20, 2010. The high school students are:• Allison Carter of William Aberhart High School in Calgary, Alberta• Parastoo Abtahi of Richmond Hill High School in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

The contest challenged youth to use their creative genius and, in 30 seconds or less, explain why “I Love Science” in a thought-provoking, inventive and entertaining manner. “Their creativity was incredible, and I really appreciated their message that science is all about asking big questions,” said Greg Dick, Outreach General Manager at PI.

A special broadcast with Prof. Hawking from Waterloo can be seen on TVO on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 8pm EDT. The TVO signal appears across Canada on Bell TV channel 265 or Shaw Direct channel 353. Ontario viewers can also find TVO on channel 2 via cable or over-the-air in most areas of the province.
