INFORMS '97 -- "Managing Services in the Next Millennium"

Date: May 4 - 7, 1997

Place: Town and Country Hotel, Mission Valley, San Diego

Event: Spring National Conference for the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS)

More than 2,000 practitioners (information technology analysts, consultants, software developers, engineers and managers) will attend to learn about the most current research and results in information technology in the fields of:

Health Care Military Tourism Manufacturing Telecommunications Transportation

INFORMS 1997 offers workshops, exhibits, software presentations, tutorials, lectures, plant tours to Sony and Naval Supply Depot, for professionals in operations research, management science, decision technology and the business community.

Practice-focused sessions and tutorials address recent technological advances, review applied projects, and include examples of both successful and unsuccessful implementations. There will be actual applications, new analytical methods, and vendor exhibits. Several software demonstrations are scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 6 and 7.

INFORMS is also an opportunity for professionals from all fields to learn about military applications of modeling and telemedicine technology, subjects usually presented only at conferences held within the military services.

Keynote Speaker: James B. Hudak, Andersen Consulting, Strategic Services Practice, will address the topic, "Marketplace Issues: Health Care in the Twenty-first Century," on Tuesday, May 6, from 10-11:30 a.m.

Noble Prize Speaker: Dr. Harry Markowitz, who shared the 1990 Noble Prize in Economics for his work on Portfolio Theory, will speak on "Principles of Inference: In Theory and In Practice" on Monday, May 5, from 11 a.m.-noon.
