Newswise — The Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) offers its condolences and sympathies to the people of Japan, to the government of Japan, and to the members of the INMM Japan Chapter during the aftermath of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Japan on Friday, March 11.

“The loss of life and the physical devastation to Japan are a great tragedy. We offer our support to all those affected directly and indirectly by these disasters,” said Scott Vance, INMM president. While recognizing that the extent of the damage to Japan’s nuclear power generating system is not fully known at this time, Vance stated, “Our immediate concern is the safety of our many friends and colleagues and the Japanese people.”

INMM encourages anyone wishing to help the victims of the earthquake and tsunami to make a donation to the Red Cross through:

• The American Red Cross Web site (www.redcross.org)• The Japanese Red Cross Web site (www.jrc.or.jp/english) • Or by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 for Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief.
