Program that Rebuilds Iraq’s Science and Engineering Capacity
Newswise — McKissack & McKissack, CRDF, Solar One and the New York Professional Chapter of Engineers Without Borders will host a discussion on the success and challenges of the U.S. Department of State’s Iraq Engineer Enhancement Program (IEEP) at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, Monday, April 19 at 6pm. The panel will explore the challenges of rebuilding Iraq’s scientific and technological infrastructure, and the urgency of its embrace.
An Iraqi executive and engineer charged with reconstruction of Iraq’s damaged infrastructure, as well as an IEEP participant, will describe the technical, professional and societal challenges facing Iraq today.
Iraqi journalist Alaa Majeed and Green Design & Construction Committee, and Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Chair Andrew Daquesian will moderate the panel.
IEEP is a public-private partnership focused on increasing Iraqi professional and technical capacity while promoting infrastructure and workforce development. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and managed by CRDF to facilitate U.S.-Iraq cooperation to “strengthen the development of Iraq’s future leaders, through exchanges, training programs, and fellowships…in fields including science, engineering, [and] medicine.”
