As concerns mount over the integrity and ethical standards of the journals in which medical and scientific results are published, JAMA editor Catherine DeAngelis, MD, will address the topic Sept. 13 in a lecture at the University of Michigan.

The lecture is the latest in the series presented by the Raymond W. Waggoner Lectureship on Ethics and Values in Medicine. DeAngelis will focus on the implications for medical researchers when the independence and motivation of research journals is questioned.

DeAngelis will speak at 4 p.m. on Sept. 13 in the Maternal Child Health Center Auditorium at the U-M Health System.

The Waggoner lectureship is named after Raymond Waggoner, a prominent U-M psychiatrist who died this June. Throughout his long career as chair of the U-M Department of Psychiatry, Waggoner explored medical ethics and values issues as well as mental health.

More information on this event will be available in early September. Those interested may call 734-764-2220, or e-mail [email protected]
