Newswise — INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The American College of Sports Medicine is pleased to announce that Janice L. Thompson, Ph.D., FACSM, is a recipient of its 2015 Citation Award. Dr. Thompson was selected for this award because of her significant contributions to sports medicine and the exercise sciences. She was recognized at an awards banquet during the association’s recent annual meeting.

“Citation Award winners are selected for their leadership and contributions in the areas of research and scholarship, clinical care, administrative services or educational services,” said Lawrence Armstrong, Chair of the ACSM Awards and Tributes Committee. “We’re happy to recognize Dr. Thompson’s tremendous accomplishments.”

Dr. Thompson is a professor of public health nutrition and exercise as well as director of research and deputy head of school at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Dr. Thompson’s research uses a mixed methods approach to examine the feasibility of changing physical activity and eating behaviors in ethnically diverse communities. Dr. Thompson has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and is co-author of four popular textbooks on nutrition that have been translated into Spanish, Korean and Arabic. Dr. Thompson has chaired several ACSM committees and served as ACSM vice president from 2008-2010. Dr. Thompson received one of six Citation Awards that were awarded in 2015.
