Newswise — Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s Neuroscience Institute and Cancer Care Center welcomed Eduardo Correia, M.D., to the medical staff in August.  Dr. Correia is board certified in neurology and neuro-oncology. He specializes in the care of patients with primary brain and spinal cord tumors and metastatic nervous system tumors and has expertise in diagnosing and treating neurologic complications of cancer, including immunotherapy-related adverse events.

“Dr. Correia is a welcome addition to our comprehensive neuroscience and cancer teams,” said Vito Buccellato, MPA, LNHA, president and chief hospital executive, Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “His particular expertise will benefit patients in the communities we serve, allowing them to stay close to home while receiving specialized care.”

Dr. Correia completed his fellowship training in clinical neuro-oncology, and in research as part of Brain Tumor Center, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, NYC.  He completed his residency in neurology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, and received his medical doctorate at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, School of Medicine.  He won the Weill-Cornell Medical College 2021 Faculty Teaching Award during his time at Sloan Kettering and is a member of the Society for Neuro-Oncology, American Academy of Neurology and American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Correia provides patients with individualized treatment approach, increasing efficacy and reducing side effects for the treatment of Gliomas, Glioblastomas, Meningiomas, Ependymomas, skull base tumors, primary central nervous system lymphomas, metastases to the brain or cerebrospinal fluid that have spread from other solid cancers.  He performs lumbar punctures, intrathecal chemotherapy via lumbar puncture, Ommaya taps, and administers therapeutic Botox® for migraines and spasticity.

The Neuroscience Institute provides patients with a comprehensive line up of services for spine injuries, concussion, epilepsy, MS, ALS, brain tumors, memory, and more, as well as the region’s only Stroke Rescue Center.  The medical center was recognized by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, in 2020 and 2021 with the Neurosciences Excellence Award.

The outpatient Cancer Care Center, located in the medical center’s HOPE Tower, provides patients access to highly trained surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, clinical trials, genetic testing and support services.

“It’s an exciting time for our academic medical center’s Neuroscience Institute as we add highly specialized clinicians such as Dr. Correia and plan the construction of a centralized and exceedingly patient-accessible location for all of our neuroscience services,” said Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, regional president, Southern Market, Hackensack Meridian Health.
