SUBJECT:Johns Hopkins First in AIDS NIH Funding for FY 00

It's been 20 years since the first mysterious reports of HIV/AIDS infections, and researchers at Johns Hopkins continue theirquest to better understand and cure this deadly disease. For the first time, Hopkins is the top earner of AIDS research fundingfrom the National Institutes of Health for fiscal year 2000.

"This outstanding distinction is a reflection of the terrific leadership, insight and hard work that our faculty brings to AIDSresearch," says John G. Bartlett, M.D., chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins. "The extraordinary featureof HIV research at Hopkins is its diversity with substantial funding and productivity in epidemiology, virology, immunology,clinical trials, international HIV, prevention, and behavioral research."
