Journalists sought for CASE Media Fellowship programs

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Two unique programs receiving national attention will be spotlighted next year when West Virginia University hosts two media fellowships. Space is limited, so interested reporters are encouraged to apply now.

"Murder in the Mountains: A Unique Forensic Identification Degree Program" will be offered April 17-19, 2002. "Food for Thought: Increasing Meat and Fish Production for a Growing Population" is scheduled for June 23-26, 2002.

The Forensic Identification Program at WVU, site of the world's only multi-disciplinary research and education collaboration in areas related to forensic sciences, is spearheading research efforts in this exciting new arena.

"The science of forensics has become increasingly more complex, requiring journalists who cover crime beats to possess an equally sophisticated body of knowledge," said Karen Zeller, one of the WVU fellowship coordinators. "This three-day CASE Fellowship will provide journalists the opportunity to learn the latest technologies and advances from leading forensic science experts and tour national crime information centers."

The world's population continues to grow dramatically. Will there be enough food to go around? Scientists involved in the second fellowship at WVU are working feverishly to make sure there is.

"The workshops and field trips we have planned are designed to be both informative and interesting," fellowship coordinator Jim Davis said. "The topic is timely, given the growing concerns over food safety and hunger. Reporters who cover such issues as these should find the program enlightening."

Accommodations and meals will be covered by WVU. Transportation expenses to and from Morgantown are the responsibility of attendees.
