The ASA, Made up of 45,000+ Anesthesiologist Members, Chooses LWW’s Technology and Distribution Capabilities to Expand Journal Access

Newswise — Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), part of Wolters Kluwer Health, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) are pleased to announce that they have signed an agreement to renew their publishing partnership to continue publishing Anesthesiology, the official journal of the ASA. Anesthesiology publishes twelve issues annually and is also available online to members and individual subscribers via www.anesthesiology.org and to institutional subscribers all over the world through Ovid.

Anesthesiology, founded in 1940, leads the world in the publication of peer-reviewed novel research that transforms clinical practice and fundamental understanding of the practice of perioperative, critical care, and pain medicine. According to Editor-in-Chief James C. Eisenach, M.D., “We are committed to disseminating the highest quality work for anesthesiologists worldwide. The continued sharing of scientific knowledge to a worldwide network is indispensible to the medical specialty of anesthesiology.”

“We are honored that such a highly regarded society has chosen to continue its collaboration with LWW,” said Karen Abramson, President and CEO, Wolters Kluwer Health Medical Research. “ASA’s 45,000+ members spend every day providing the highest-quality care to patients who require surgery or relief from pain. As the largest professional society for anesthesiologists, ASA is dedicated to providing its members the education, research and practice tools they need to serve their patients and their profession, so we are very proud to extend our publishing partnership.” “The ASA has published with LWW continuously since 1960, so in addition to our renewal, we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of our partnership with them,” said John Thorner, J.D., Executive Vice President of ASA. “LWW has been a dedicated and innovative partner and we look forward to continuing to work together to position Anesthesiology in the forefront of clinical medicine and scientific publishing. In particular, we are excited to expand the international reach of both LWW and Wolters Kluwer Health to spread the scientific research to both journal subscribers and society members globally.”

Over 45,000 anesthesiologist professionals choose to belong to ASA because of the variety and quality of membership benefits. ASA provides many opportunities for its members to be successful and to participate in continuing education opportunities that support both their professional needs and their plan for lifelong learning.

ASA members and individual subscribers to Anesthesiology can now read important articles ‘on the go’ since all articles are available in an EPUB format, allowing readers to download selected articles of interest. Once downloaded, the article can be transferred and read on many of today's most popular electronic reading devices, including the iPad. Another on-the-go option for Anesthesiology readers is the Journals@LWW iPhone app, which brings Anesthesiology right to an iPhone®, iPod Touch® or iPad® where they can quickly and easily browse through tables of contents, review abstracts across journals and specialties, and link to the full-text article. This application is free as a download from the App Store in iTunes.

Anesthesiology is also available to institutional subscribers via the OvidSP online information research platform from Ovid, LWW’s sister company within Wolters Kluwer Health. Hundreds of medical, educational, and healthcare institutions all over the world use OvidSP to offer their practitioners, students, and researchers quick, seamless access to thousands of premium electronic resources—including ebooks, ejournals, and bibliographic databases—that are critical for their research and their work.
