American Thyroid Association Announces Awards 2015 Research Grants Awards to Leading Young Researchers

The American Thyroid Association (ATA) is pleased to announce that grants have been awarded to support projects proposed by leading young researchers. Three of these projects involve the genetic analysis of thyroid tumors carrying the BRAFV600E mutation, which is associated with the development of some forms of thyroid cancer and increased risk for distant metastases, more advanced disease, and higher mortality. These studies aim to identify molecular markers that help clinicians assess patient risk and tailor treatments to improve patient outcomes and minimize side effects.

Iodine Daily Serving Now Recommended in Multivitamin/Mineral Supplements for Pregnant and Lactating Women

2014 Van Meter Award Winner Announced

The recipient of the 2014 Van Meter Award, established in 1930 by the American Thyroid Association for outstanding contributions by a young clinical scientist to research on the thyroid gland is Christine Spitzweg, M.D., Professor in Internal Medicine/Endocrinology, Chair of the Thyroid Center, Co-chair of the Center for Neuroendocrine Tumors, and Head of the research laboratory for Molecular Endocrinology at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany.

New Board Members Elected to American Thyroid Association
