Newswise — Critical care nurses at Loyola University Health System have joined an elite group of nurses who are certified in their clinical area of expertise. Lucy Bensfield, RN, Svetlana Dordevic, RN, Ricky Francisco, RN, and Asuncion Garcia, RN, completed their trauma nurse core curriculum. Katie Beyer, RN, Sharon McHugh, RN, and Laura Pasternock, RN, became trauma nurse specialists. Becca Hahn, RN, earned her critical care registered nurse certification.

Other critical care nurses furthered their professional knowledge by earning baccalaureate and advanced degrees. Lucy Bensfield, RN, received her bachelor of science in nursing degree from Benedictine University. Meghann McCain, RN, MSN, received her master of science in nursing degree from Loyola University Chicago. All of these nurses work in the intensive care unit at Loyola University Hospital (LUH).------------------------------Loyola Nurse Publishes Article on Pregnancy Loss in the Emergency DepartmentVicki Bacidore, RN, MSN, ACNP-BC, CEN, published an article titled, “A Collaborative Framework for Managing Pregnancy Loss in the Emergency Department” in the Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecological and Neonatal Nursing. Bacidore also gave an advanced clinical grand rounds presentation at the Illinois Emergency Nurses Association’s 36th Annual Spring Symposium. Bacidore works as a nurse practitioner in the Emergency Department at LUH.------------------------------Loyola Nurse Presents at Emergency Nurses MeetingSarah Calvert, MSN, RN, presented at the Illinois Emergency Nurses Association’s 36th Annual Spring Symposium. Her talk, “Point-of-Care Cardiac Biomarkers: Is There Evidence to Support Use in Emergency Departments?” was part of an evidence-based medicine contest series. Calvert works in the Emergency Department at LUH.------------------------------Loyola Nurses Volunteer for Cancer-Prevention StudyRita Guenther, RN, chaired a clinical study-enrollment campaign for the American Cancer Society. The trial is the society’s third cancer-prevention study. Other Loyola nurse volunteers included Cindy Fellencer, Joan Rojek, Kathy Battaglia, Carolyn Jacobs, Molly Hewitt and Cathy Bevcar.------------------------------Loyola Nurse Earns Highest Score in History of Certification ExamAmy Perrin-Ross, MSN, CNRN, recently passed the International Multiple Sclerosis Certification examination with the highest score in the history of the test. Perrin-Ross works in the Department of Neurology at Loyola University Health System.
