Newswise — Arun Gosain, MD, a pediatric plastic surgeon at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, was recently named to the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). As a Governor he is one of the leaders of the largest organization of surgeons in the world.
Through the Board process, certain surgical societies, chapters, and federal medical services are permitted to nominate Governors to the Board of Governors. And as immediate past-president of the American Society of Maxiofacial Surgeons (ASMS), he represents that organization on the ACS Board.
Dr. Gosain earned his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in biology, graduating Magda Cum Laude. He then earned his medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency at the University of California Hospitals Department of Surgery in San Francisco.
He completed an additional residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry at the New Jersey Affiliated Hospitals in Newark and a plastic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Gosain completed a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at the New York University School of Medicine Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery.
His first teaching position was at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1992 as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. From there he moved up, ultimately becoming a full Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Medical College in 2002. In 2003 he was named Section Chief of Plastic Surgery and Director of the Surgical Practice Unit at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
In 2006, Dr. Gosain moved to Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine where he was named the DeWayne Greenwood Richey II Professor of Surgery. In addition, he was also Chief of the Division of Pediatric Plastic Surgery and Director of both the Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic and the Vascular Anomalies Clinic at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. The following year, he was also promoted to Vice Chair, Department of Plastic Surgery at Case and eventually Program Director for the Plastic Surgery Residency there.
Dr. Gosain joined Lurie Children’s Hospital as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Plastic Surgery in 2012. Simultaneously, he was also named Professor of Plastic Surgery at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.
He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Widely recognized as a leader in the field, Dr. Gosain has received numerous awards for his contributions to plastic surgery. In addition he has been published more than 170 times in peer-reviewed journals and has authored 50 book chapters. He has also made more than 150 presentations at regional, national and international meetings. #####
