Newswise — The American College of Sports Medicine is pleased to announce that Margot Putukian, M.D., FACSM is a recipient of its 2016 Citation Award. Dr. Putukian was selected for this award because of her significant contributions to sports medicine and the exercise sciences. She was recognized at an awards banquet during the association’s annual meeting.

“Citation Award winners are selected for their leadership and contributions in the areas of research and scholarship, clinical care, administrative services or educational services,” said Liz Joy, president of ACSM. “We’re happy to recognize Dr. Putukian’s tremendous accomplishments.”

Dr. Putukian is the director of athletic medicine, head team physician at Princeton University and the assistant director for medical services at Princeton University Health Services. She also serves as an associate clinical professor at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. After completing her undergraduate degree at Yale and obtaining her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Putukian took her postgraduate training in primary care internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, followed by her sports medicine fellowship at Michigan State University. Dr. Putukian has published 62 peer-reviewed publications, 43 textbook chapters, editorial responsibilities for textbooks and professional medical journals and is a teacher and mentor.

Through her responsibilities as head team physician for Princeton University, team physician for the U.S. Men’s Lacrosse National Team and for U.S. National Soccer Teams, Dr. Putukian has been a leader in defining the essential role of organized team medical care. Her sideline and training room work supplemented by her research, policy and educational efforts have fundamentally improved sports medicine. Dr. Putukian’s service to ACSM includes serving on the board of trustees and chair of the clinical sports medicine leadership committee.
