APA INVITES MEDIA TO ATTEND 150TH ANNUAL MEETING IN SAN DIEGO, CA

NOTE: All presentations are EMBARGOED until date and local time of presentation.

Psychiatric experts will share the latest advances in mental illnesses research and treatment at the American Psychiatric Association's 150th Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA., May 17-22, 1997, at the San Diego Convention Center.

The six-day conference will feature 121 symposia, 34 paper sessions, over 700 new research presentations, 25 special lectures, 11 special noon forums including a Town Hall Meeting on Reasserting Psychiatry's Control of its Future: The Containment of Managed Care, which is chaired by APA President Harold I. Eist., M.D.

Media briefings topics will include Are We Pushing Our Kids Too Hard? (Tuesday, May 20, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.), and Presidential Issues Briefing: "Is Managed Care Killing Quality Psychiatric Care?"(Wednesday, May 21, 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.). Both events will feature panels of expert psychiatrists as presenters and will be held in the media briefing room (San Diego Convention Center, Mezzanine Level, Room 16B).
